Last night the New York Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks 112-108 in the second to last game of the regular season. Yes it was win against the best team in the East but in the long run it became bigger loss than any game this year.
Winning when you’re in Tank mode is the worst possible scenario. The worse your record is the better your chances are at getting the #1 pick in the draft. Also, the worst record secures you at the very least the fourth pick in the draft. The Knicks now can possibly not be awarded the most ping-pong balls due to the fact that they and the Timberwolves are tied for the worst records in the league. A meaningless win when you’re setting the team up for failure is such a bad win.
Of course the players on the court, who happen to be playing for their lives, want to win.
This game could be the difference between getting the number one pick to now possibly the number five pick.
